If you haven't heard the news yet, let me be the first one to tell you! Yarnspirations just release a new line of yarn that is sure to be popular going into the fall and winter season of crocheting! It is somewhat of a spin off of the infamous Caron Cakes yarn, except this time YOU can control the color changes. Interested? Then keep reading to see the new Caron x Pantone yarn, and find out how I bought mine on the cheap (for $3.20...regularly $7.99!)
A couple years ago, Caron Cakes yarn was released and took the yarn-y world by storm! If you have followed me for any length of time, you know that I'm a huge Caron Cakes fan. I love the predetermined color combos and the ease of working with it! However, I know that some of you out there just can't handle the abrupt color changes that inevitably happen when working with cake yarn. I get it! In certain situations I'm not a fan either (I have a few little tricks to minimize the obvious color changes), and Yarnspirations seems like they get it too! Because this year, they released what I can only assume is a cake yarn spin-off. Caron x Pantone.
Caron x Pantone addresses the most common complaint of Caron Cakes and other cake style yarns. The abrupt color changes. Instead, Caron x Pantone is a collection of 5 individual little hanks that are all connected and sold as a beautiful braided skein. The color pallets are based off of popular Pantone colors and are pretty much perfection! You still get the excitement of the trendy and somewhat unexpected color pallets, but now you get to control your color changes. And if you want to get really wild, you could even mix and match your own color pallets by buying a few different colorways.
Another cool thing about the new Caron x Pantone yarn is that it addresses the issue of having coordinating solids. I've often heard of a wish that Caron Cakes would release a yarn in the same fiber blend/weight as the multi-color cakes. Well, ta-daa, Caron x Pantone has granted that wish right away! There are 20 different fabulous color pallets to choose from, and in addition to those there are 7 skeins of complementing solids. You can now add the edges and borders you've always wanted to add to your beautiful multi-colored projects ;)
So you're sold, right!? I am a perpetual "trier of new yarns" so when my husband got home from work today I left the kiddos with him and took myself on a date to Michaels :) And while I was prepared to pay the $7.99 price tag to try this lovely Merino blend yarn, I didn't want to pay full price. I never do! Michaels currently has all of their yarn on sale for "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" (through 8/18/18)...which is alright. But that breaks down to about 33% off of each skein. Not full price, but anything under 40% doesn't impress me very much since that is pretty much the craft store "norm" when it comes to discount coupons. But you know what does impress me? 60% off coupons! When I opened the Michaels app on my phone to check their coupons today, I saw this....
So naturally, I opened my Joann's app and was happy to see this!
I brought my skein of Caron x Pantone up to the register, showed the employee ringing me up the Joanns coupon, and low and behold I walked out of the store paying $3.20+ tax for this skein worth $7.99! Now, if you want to stock up the B2G1 free option is probably the way to go. But if you just want to give one a try like I did, definitely match the coupon! I came home with the "Moody Pumpkins" colorway, and I can't wait to turn this beauty into something perfect for fall.
Overall, I'm psyched about this new yarn and I'm very happy that I get to give it a try for just over $3 instead of $8! I've always been a budget shopper, and if you want more tips and tricks for saving money on yarn you can check out the following posts:
