Close your eyes and imagine a yarn that does all the work for you... Are you picturing Bernat Home Bundle?? If you aren't, you should be! Want self-striping yarn? Check! Want to change textures? Check! Want to make a soft, squishy, and textured rug? Check, check and check :)
Bernat Home Bundle yarn combines 4 different textures in one bulky skein of yarn! You can get it in multiple colors (I chose Cream/Gray) or in solid Cream if you like the idea of multi-texture without multi-color. Some skeins even have variegated yarn in the mix! There are tons of options-so whether you like neutrals or brights there will be a colorway that you love.
Do you see all that lovely, fluffy texture?! I couldn't even work on this project in front of my toddler because she kept trying to snuggle it :) This free crochet pattern is a fast, beginner friendly, and only uses one skein of this yarn (plus a little extra Bernat Blanket Yarn if you want to edge it like I did).
sl st: slip stitch
SC: single crochet
DC: double crochet
Length (with handles) = approx. 20"
Width = approx. 28"
Gauge is not particularly important for this project
Chain stitches at the beginning rows do not count as stitches
The end of each round of the border is connected to the first stitch of the round with a sl st.
Row 1: DC in 3rd ch from the hook and DC across (38)
Row 2-29: Ch 2, DC across (38)
At the end of row 29, switch to a complementary color of Bernat Blanket yarn and SC around the edges (ch 2 at each corner). Join with sl st to first SC of the round. Ch 1, and SC a second round, working (sc, ch 2, sc) into each ch 2 corner space from the previous round. Tie off yarn and weave in ends.
If you want to make this rug SUPER squishy, you could also try crocheting a "backing" using Bernat Blanket yarn and attaching the two rectangles. If you do this, let me know if it feels like standing on clouds (because that's what I'm imagining!)
