Open-Air Market Bag: Free Pattern

I love market bags!  I really do!  I love the reusable bag concept that has finally made its way to the U.S.  In college, I studied abroad in Australia-when they were already using reusable shopping bags almost exclusively.  I remember bringing about 15 bags back home with me after my 6 months there, and I will always remember the strange looks I got when I tried to use them while shopping!  Fortunately, a few years later, the US jumped on the bandwagon and I was no longer the "strange" girl who uses those crazy bags.

I do have a confession to make.  I don't normally love crocheting market bags.  I think all the patterns are amazing and adorable, but they often take longer than I would like for a functional piece that I will inevitably use and abuse.

Enter the Open-Air Market Bag: This bag was mostly inspired by my curiosity in using the newer Red Heart Cordial yarn.  It is 100% polyester, and from what I can tell so far, very durable!  I envision using this bag to harvest my garden.  I think it will hold up to a lot of abuse!

For those of you who scored the AWESOME deals there have been on cotton yarn lately, I also worked this pattern up using double strands of Lily Sugar n Cream.  This will probably turn into a summer library book bag for my daughter.  Yep...my one year old is a total book worm...

This bag works up quickly, so work up one or many in preparation for spring!
